CASE STUDY – CEO Manufacturing

Background
David is the CEO and founder of a Manufacturing company with HQ in Singapore and regional offices in 3 neighbouring countries. The company is profitable and has plans for growth in the APAC region.
David came in contact with Helena Livingston and Heart Living Pte Ltd through recommendation and decided to take action. He booked individual executive coaching sessions.
The Goal
David wanted to ensure that the teams were working well together and were driven towards the same goal. He wanted to ensure that people of different backgrounds, career objectives and strengths/weaknesses were aligned.
“When challenges go unchecked for too long, it can set a company back a few years to potentially being its downfall. I want to improve in the role as CEO to ensure that won’t happen to my company.”
The challenges according to the client
From more senior members of staff with a wealth of knowledge to fresh graduates who are passionate to grow, no two people are the same. Incorrectly managing these unique personalities can lead to subpar output to outright unscrupulous opportunism.
People Management is the most critical and yet most challenging task. I realize I need guidance and require a different way of thinking.
The Coaching Sessions
David had an initial chemistry session with Helena. During this meeting, David gained clarity of what to expect from executive coaching. Together, David and Helena agreed on the key focal areas for the duration of the program and contracted around confidentiality.
Having formalized their working relationship, the initial session served to hone in on goals and ways of measuring David’s progress, from beginning to end of the coaching journey as well as from session to session.
Each subsequent coaching session is about partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential.
Through the psychodynamic approach, David developed greater self-awareness regarding his strengths, his opportunities to improve, as well as become more understanding of and able to predict his impact on other individuals and groups. This helped David become more intentional in his actions and present in his connections.
During the sessions, David would consider multiple options for action and then took ownership of his desired outcomes, development and changes.
Upon conclusion of the program, David and Helena reviewed the progress made since the start of the coaching process as well as recall the most impactful insights had during the journey.
Conclusion and results according to David
The most important element that has changed since I’ve started my sessions with Helena has been improving the way I step into the role of a CEO.
Regardless of the noise and competing voices that may be on the outside, the sessions have helped me maintain balance and I feel comfortable when I need to stand my ground. It has helped transform the way I react and respond to other’s actions and has enabled me to make faster and more sound decisions for the organization.
The sessions helped me better understand myself and the natural intuition I have towards leadership and learning how to step into the role, accept and listen to my natural instincts and allow them to guide me instead of hinder my decision making.
Helena’s approach of listening, delving into the nuances and specific exercises have been very impactful for me. This means accepting ownership of the accomplishments achieved but also acknowledging where improvements still need to be made.
The sessions brought balance to what was originally skewed decision making that ultimately wasn’t always in the best interest of the company. With Helena’s help, I’ve regained a sense of stability and emotional/psychological ownership of the company’s direction.
The coaching process has been extremely helpful and thought-provoking and I can’t thank Helena enough for all her help and I look forward to working with her on continuing to further my leadership capabilities.
